
Filey War Memorial, Murray Street

Ben was considered to be Filey born and bred but five months after his birth the family was enumerated at 1 In Yd Mill Cottages, Scarborough. His father was Robert William, a labourer born in Seamer and his mother Sarah Ann nee JOHNSON born in Hemingby, a small village in Lincolnshire, near Horncastle. In 1881 Ben was the youngest of three children (see census record below).
