 Filey War Memorial, Murray Street

Harry was born in Winwick, Huntingdonshire in 1893 (Free BMD Oundle Dec Q 3b 217). There is some uncertainty about his arrival in Filey. Dan Eaton says that "before the war he was known as a general labourer" around the town "and was seeing a girl called Jane Ann Johnson". The couple were married at St Oswald's on 28th July 1915. It appears from other sources that Harry first enlisted in the Huntingdonshire Cyclist Battalion (Service number 0060) but later joined the 1st/5th Warwickshire Regiment.
